So, the birds are taking flight! We’ve had a pretty great last couple of weeks despite the site not being 100% full, and the word is getting out! One week ago today, one of the Birds had the pleasure of helping to judge “home brews” made by some of the top people in the craft-beer world that is Vancouver. It was the Samley Cup, put on by our friends at Samuel Adams and hosted at Doolins Irish Pub just off Granville. Not really knowing what to expect, we were faced with the awesome task of tasting several beers made by teams from such places as Legacy Liquor, Brewery Creek and Darby’s (AND MANY MORE!)
One of the birds, Chere, was in attendance to judge amongst some pretty amazing company. The other judges hail from Beer Me BC fame and East Van Beer Blog and hold some high esteem amongst those in the know. It was truly an honor to be across the table from them- not only tasting but learning too!
Beer Me BC has detailed the event in all its glory, complete with pics and the winning brews! We loved taking part in this event and discovering a bit more about home brewing; and can’t wait to see what else is in store for us in 2014!
April 4/5 is another big event for the Birds but this time we’re taking to the road to experience it! The Okanagan Fest-of-Ale is taking place in Penticton with over 30 local brewers on the roster to show off their finest. We plan on bringing you our personal picks; Alice, the adventurous bird will no doubt jump head first into the intriguing brews, while Chere will take in the saisons, farm ales and fruity beers. And of course since everything in between will need to be sampled. we’ll be doing it all. Stay tuned to BeerBirds for our take on it and what we LOVED…
